Colby Chorale to Perform April 6

On Saturday, April 6, the Colby College Chorale will perform music from the American and European traditions. Part of the 2001-02 Music at Colby Concert Series, the concert will be held in Lorimer Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on the Waterville campus. It is open to the public and free of charge.

Returning from a spring concert tour to Greece in March, the chorale will perform contrasting works from four distinctive musical cultures. The concert program will feature Greek and American music both from the cultivated and vernacular traditions, English folk songs and African-American spirituals.

The chorale will also perform two madrigals based on texts by the 19th-century British poet Sir Thomas Moore=="At the Mid-Hour of Night" and "Fill the Bumper Fair." Peter Re9;, Colby emeritus professor of music, composed both works. The concert material will have been performed on the spring tour, including a performance for the U.S. Embassy staff in Athens.

Under the direction of Paul Machlin, the Arnold Bernhard Professor of Music, the Colby College Chorale is the college’s largest formal chorus, including more than 70 Colby students. For information about this year's schedule of Music at Colby events contact Diane Kadyk at 207-872-3236.
