Lamb Presents "The Secret Lives of Girls" March 20

On Wednesday, March 20, psychologist and author Sharon Lamb will present the lecture "Playing Dead and Feeling Tingly: The Secret Lives of Young Girls." The event begins at 4 p.m. in the Pugh Center of Cotter Union. It is open to the public and free of charge.

Lamb--a licensed psychologist, therapist and professor of psychology at Saint Michael's College--will discuss the taboo topics of girlhood sexuality and aggression and the pressure to conceal feelings of desire or sexual subjectivity. Lamb's recently released book, The Secret Lives of Girls: What Good Girls Really Do--Sex Play, Aggression, and Their Guilt, is based on her interviews with 122 women and girls from a wide range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. Lamb's study reveals the ways girls use their minds and bodies for private sexual play, mischief and hidden aggression.

Lamb has worked in the areas of moral development, girls' development, and women’s studies for two decades. She earned her Ed.D. in human development from Harvard University in 1988 and a master's in counseling and consulting psychology from Harvard in 1980.

The event is co-sponsored by Colby's Education and Human Development Program and Women's Studies Program.
