Recently, the Pulver Family Foundation made the naming gift for the Pulver Pavilion, an 8,000 square-foot space that will bridge the two existing wings of Cotter Union. The Pulver Pavilion, a large, open space with high barrel vaulted ceilings, will include a café, snack bar, and lounge area. Designed to function as a gathering place for Colby students, the pavilion will be the heart of Cotter Union, with most areas of the existing building leading to and from it.
Stephanie Pulver '93, executive director of the Pulver Family Foundation, a private foundation focusing on education, healthcare, and Jewish causes, said, “The goal was to enhance the sense of community at Colby and expand the options for social interaction by creating a 'living room' for Colby students.” She added, “We hope it will become the hub of student life outside the classroom, a place for students to meet informally, relax, and hang out.” A groundbreaking ceremony for the pavilion was held on May 26, 2006, and it is planned to be open for students when they return for the Fall 2007 semester.
Another major gift to Colby from the Pulver Family Foundation was the Pulver Family Chair in Jewish Studies. "This gift gave us the opportunity to combine two of our major foundation focuses: education and Jewish causes," said Stephanie. "The goal of the endowed chair, along with our gift for the Colby Hillel Room in the Pugh Center, was to enhance Jewish life and diversity on campus."
A New York City resident, Stephanie is also executive vice president of Cornerstone Capital, Inc., a private investment company that is involved in a wide range of investments, including public securities, private equity, venture capital, and real estate.
