Georgia O’Keeffe, American (1887-1986), Birch and Pine Trees—Pink, 1925, oil on canvas, 36 x 22
In the wake of a magnificent pledge of art from Peter '56 and Paula Crane Lunder, Colby's Board of Trustees voted on May 26, 2007, to increase the campaign goal from $235 million to $370 million. The new goal distinguishes Reaching the World as the largest fund-raising campaign in Maine history.

The Lunders' promised gift includes one of the most important collections of American art ever donated to a liberal arts college and will establish the Colby College Museum of Art as an unparalleled educational resource for Colby students, the community, and the state of Maine. "The Lunders' gift gives us tremendous momentum going forward," said President William D. Adams, "and Colby's trustees and alumni are inspired by it. We are excited to be lifting our aspirations so dramatically."

Prior to the Lunders' promised gift, the College had raised more than $148 million toward its original campaign goal. Strengthening the endowment remains Colby's top fiscal priority. In order for Colby to stay competitive in the changing world, its endowment must continue to grow through donations. Remaining campaign goals include substantial endowments dedicated to financial aid, faculty support, academic and campus life, and facilities.

"Raising the goal is just one indication of how bullish our community is about Colby," said Joseph Boulos '68, chair of Colby's Board of Trustees. "We are raising funds to further strengthen everything we do and to improve access to one of the finest liberal-arts educations in the world."
