King, Knight strong runs at NE Division III meet

NEW LONDON, Conn. --- A week after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase at her league meet, Colby College's Anna King won the 1,500-meter run on Saturday at Coast Guard Academy in the New England Division III Women's Track and Field Championships.

King had a time of 4:39.71, just slightly slower than her best time of the season of 4:39.29 in a meet at Bowdoin earlier this season. Liz Petit finished in 10th place in 4:45.03.

Cassie Knight had an NCAA qualifying time of 10:39.90 in taking second place in the 3,000 steeplechase. Amherst's Elise Tropiano won the race in 10:36.46 and no other runner broke 11 minutes. Knight's best previous time this season was 10:56.7 at the Bowdoin Aloha Relays. Sharon Fuller took 11th place for the Mules in 11:56.66.

Emma Linhard was third in the 800 meters (2:15.48) and Brianna Kondrat took third in the discus throw (125-00) for the Mules. Petit, Heather MacDonald, King, and Linhard placed third in the 3,200 relay in 9:25.84.

Colby, which finished in eight place out of 28 teams with 40 points, also got a ninth from Erin Beasley in the 100 dash (13.00).
