Dear Colby Families,
As co-chairs of the Parents Executive Committee, we welcome current parents and parents of alumni to the Colby community.

The college years are interesting and exciting times for parents, as their children make the transition to independent young adulthood. As children move away from home and become adults, the role that parents play in their lives changes dramatically, but it does not become less important. Colby parents are encouraged to stay involved, and the College offers many ways to keep in touch, offer support, and stay informed.

Parents are an important part of the Colby community. All parents of current students and alumni are members of the Parents Association. The association offers every parent opportunities to be involved with College activities and provides a formal link to Colby.

Parents are invited to attend Family Homecoming Weekend (October 22-24, 2010) and to subscribe to the bimonthly electronic parent newsletter, Parents Out of the Blue. If you would like to receive our Parents Out of the Blue newsletter, please send your e-mail address to parents@colby.edu. Parents also receive the quarterly Colby magazine. Please also take a moment to fill out the parent survey.

Colby students document life on Mayflower Hill for publications and Web pages, and they share images in a weekly online photo gallery called The Student Lens.

Colby parents are also members of the Colby Alumni Network. You can search for other Colby parents in your city, state, or region by joining the CAN.

Parents are invited to volunteer for the Welcome Committee, which makes calls to parents of incoming students over the summer before their first-year student arrives at Colby.

The College encourages and appreciates parent support of athletic and art programs, service on the Welcome Committee, sponsorship of student intern and career opportunities, and financial contributions through the Colby Fund for Parents.

If you have a question, please contact us or Nicky Blanchard, director of parents giving and programs, at 207-859-4322 or parents@colby.edu.

We welcome you and wish you and your student a fulfilling experience with this wonderful learning community!
