Varsity softball came aboard during the 1976-77 academic year, and just last year the team set another precedent at Colby. Softball, under head coach Dick Bailey, became the first team ever to host a NESCAC Tournament Final Four event.
The Colby softball team went 29-4 in the first three seasons of play as a varsity sport and won the Maine State title each season. The Mules expanded their schedule in 1985 and finished 19-3 while winning the first of two straight NIAC Tournament titles.
