academicsHow does studying in Waterville, Maine, prepare students for the international mix of the 21st-century world?

Thoroughly.

Historically, Colby has been a leader in internationalism— in its emphasis on study abroad programs, in the international diversity of the student body and faculty, in the way global issues permeate the curriculum, and particularly in the way graduates fan out and make a difference in far-flung corners of the world. But you don’t have to wait to graduate to make a difference. Colby faculty members and students are actively engaged in national and international affairs directly from Mayflower Hill thanks to advanced information technology. And with international opportunities during semesters abroad and Jan Plans, most Colby students work and study in foreign countries before graduating.

Bringing the World to Colby
Colby’s international diversity brings the richness of many different perspectives to discussions in classrooms, dormitories, and dining halls. Currently, students representing almost 70 foreign lands make up more than 10 percent of the student body. Their active participation in classes and in the rest of College life brings a variety of perspectives on world events and about life in America—perspectives essential to understanding the world and America’s place in it.
