Colby has enrolled international students since the 1820s and has emphasized attention to international issues for generations. Colby recruits top students and faculty from other countries, has a greater percentage of students who choose to study abroad than almost any other U.S. college, and emphasized international issues across its curriculum.

Learning to work with people from many countries and cultures is an essential part of being well educated and well prepared to live our increasingly global societies. Colby's international students—who come from more than 60 countries and make up roughly 11 percent of the student body—contribute to and benefit from that type of education at Colby.

Colby was one of the first colleges or universities in the United States to win the Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization.
