Community service, on and off campus and increasingly around the world, is a tradition at Colby. The Colby Volunteer Center (CVC) is a clearinghouse that matches students who want to help in the community with individuals and programs that can use assistance, whether they are special-needs children or organizations like the local soup kitchen or homeless shelter. Service learning is a trend that is growing as part of formal studies in a wide range of academic departments. And Colby’s study abroad programs increasingly incorporate volunteerism and service learning on other continents and in other cultures.
