Given the wide range of interests among student organizations and a student government focused on programming social and cultural events, the list of things to do at Colby on any given day or night is impressive. There are more than a dozen vocal and instrumental ensembles that students can join, and a cappella concerts and Colby Improv performances are perennial favorites. The Student Programming Board president oversees six committees that sponsor events and performances, and academic departments offer lectures and readings covering a huge range of interests. Besides 32 varsity athletic teams, Colby fields 13 club teams and offers an ambitious intramural sports program. There is always something to do, and students almost always have choices.
The Coffeehouse
campus lifeRenovated and expanded in 2002, the Mary Low Coffeehouse is a popular place for students to hang out, perform, play games, swill java, or take in a show. Whether it’s the International Club’s weekly Friday coffee hour, a first-rate singer-songwriter on a Saturday night, or a student band, the Coffeehouse is a comfortable, informal space for conversation and alternative arts programming.
