HHMI Grant Coordinator

The Division of Natural Sciences at Colby College invites applications for the position of Grant Coordinator to oversee several components of a 4-year $1 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. This is a full-time, 12-month, grant-funded position beginning September 1, 2008, with possible annual renewal for an additional three years.

Responsibilities of the Grant Coordinator will include: coordination of a science/math outreach program with a local elementary school; coordination of a program to promote successful outcomes for underrepresented minority and first-generation college students; development and management of a web page; coordination of grant assessment and reporting activities; budget oversight; organization of speakers and meetings; and additional duties as assigned. The Grant Coordinator will work with Colby science faculty and staff, elementary school teachers, and other education professionals; Colby's Offices of Information Technology Services and Institutional Research; and elementary school, high school, and college students. S/he will report to the Colby HHMI Principal Investigator.

Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in science and/or math, or degree in science and/or math education. An advanced degree, prior teaching experience, and experience working with a diverse student population are desirable. The successful candidate must be proactive, organized, energetic, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as a member of a team. S/he must have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. The ability to work with spreadsheets, perform data analyses, author web pages, and manage budgets is required.
