The Department of English invites applications for an associate or full professor who will serve as department chair, beginning July 1, 2009. Preferred areas of specialization include Eighteenth-Century Literature, Transatlantic studies, Irish Studies, or non-Shakespearean Drama, interests in visual/material culture desirable. A strong record of teaching and scholarship is required; administrative experience necessary. The department offers both English and English-Creative Writing majors; the department chair works closely with the Director of Creative Writing and the Director of the Writer’s Center. Responsibilities would include teaching three courses (a two-course release from the five-course load while serving as chair) or four courses with a stipend. Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college (with approximately 1800 students), recognized for excellence in undergraduate education and for close student-faculty interaction.
