The Director of Personal Computer Support Services reports to the Director of Information Technology Services and has a leadership role in providing and supporting Windows and Macintosh desktop and notebook computers, printers and peripherals to faculty and staff, and supporting student-owned computers. This position will integrate support center strategies with the rest of ITS in communicating to the Colby community planned and unplanned outages, will participate on the information security team, and will coordinate with the Director of Administrative ITS regarding file backup and OS and application update server operations. Other duties will include coordination with the Director of Academic ITS in making available software and specialized hardware support to the faculty; evaluation and documentation of new software versions; providing oversight of the annual computer hardware request and process; managing several general student clusters and providing support to academic departments in their management of specialized teaching clusters; and managing computer and printer repair by the outsourced services.
Qualifications include: excellent technical familiarity with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems; excellent problem solving ability, especially regarding Mac and Windows network and application compatibility issues; demonstrated ability to manage a small staff (four full-time staff members plus a vendor-contracted repair person and about 20 student assistants) in delivering support for over 1,600 College-owned computers and the nearly 1,800 student owned computers; a college degree is required and an advanced degree in an area of technology change management or business process management is highly desired; ability to communicate effectively about technology issues with people having a wide range of experience and knowledge; demonstrated understanding of and commitment to quality customer service within resource constraints; eagerness to embrace the College’s initiatives in valuing differences within the Colby community.
