Colby College invites applications for the full-time position of Associate Registrar in the Office of the Registrar. The Associate Registrar supports key functions such as course catalogue and curriculum preparation, classroom and final exam scheduling, maintenance of student records, registration and grading, verification of degree requirements (degree audit), and the posting of non-Colby credit, and assists in improving and streamlining customer service, primarily through information system solutions. Reporting directly to the Registrar, the Associate Registrar understands College academic policies and procedures, applies them appropriately, and communicates them effectively and professionally to students, faculty, staff, and others. The position entails the use of various reporting languages, system tools, and applications to create reports and data sets, update the database, and maintain and improve the office's presence on the College website. This position works closely with the offices of Information Technology Services, the Dean of Faculty, the Dean of Students, Off-Campus Study, and Institutional Research on projects that support these functions, and interacts frequently with students, faculty and staff, and numerous other college offices and departments.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred), excellent analytical skills, good judgment, proven competence in the use of logic, and the ability to integrate new technology into office procedures and processes while ensuring data integrity. S/he must have programming skills; experience with databases, SQL query language, report writing and system tools, and web technology; and the ability to acquire new technological expertise as the need arises, with a keen interest in doing so. The successful candidate must be proactive, organized, energetic, detail-oriented, able to work independently and as a member of a team, and to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in a fast-paced work environment. S/he must have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and a commitment to service. Experience working in a registrar's office in a liberal arts environment, and using an integrated student information system (such as Jenzabar CX) and the UNIX operating system are desirable.
