Susan Lehan,  ext. 4473 or e-mail sclehan@colby.edu, is the Secretary/Receptionist and will assist students with health insurance questions.

There is no charge for any consultation, examination or accident/trauma care at the Colby Health Center. Physical therapy and treatment by a Certified Trainer in the Health Center or in the Nelson Room at the Fieldhouse is free. If students elect to go to a hospital emergency room or to an outside practitioner rather than the Health Center for health care, they will be responsible for the bill.

There is a charge for all medications. Most medications come pre-packaged from a carrier or from a local discounted pharmacy, with no added cost to students. If you have a prescription drug card that covers medications when you are at home, be certain to bring it with you to the Health Center and notify the nurse before your prescription is filled.

There is no charge for lab work done in the Health Center lab. This includes: urinalysis, throat culture, monospot, pregnancy test, and hematocrit. There is a hospital charge for blood drawn in the Health Center lab and sent out for special tests.

STUDENT ACCIDENT & SICKNESS INSURANCE

All full-time students are required to have health insurance coverage while attending Colby.  Students may either remain enrolled in the Student Accident and Sickness Plan through Commercial Travelers or provide proof of comparable coverage by another insurance company.  All students are automatically enrolled in the Commercial Travelers Health Insurance. In 2007, the premium was $645 for the year.  A student may waive participation in the Commercial Travelers plan by documenting that he or she has comparable coverage under another insurance policy.  Documentation of coverage must be provided annually by fully completing the On-Line Health Insurance Registration Form. This form must be submitted by August 1, 2008.  NO REFUNDS WILL BE GRANTED AFTER SEPTEMBER 1, 2008.  The Commercial Travelers Student Accident and Sickness Plan is in effect from August 1, 2008 to July 31, 2009 and provides worldwide protection. The policy terms have not been finalized for 2008-09, but in 2007, this insurance had a $100,000 limit per claim.  After a $100 deductible per claim was applied, there was an 80 percent benefit for most eligible medical expenses for the first $25,000, and 100 percent was paid thereafter.  This plan had limits on some benefits, such as the prescription drug benefit.  A brochure summarizing coverage will be mailed to all students and will also available online at http://www.crossagency.com/Colby.  Students should review the benefits closely.  If a student is considering opting out of the Colby Plan, he or she should be certain that their other insurance coverage is at least  comparable to the College sponsored plan. The On-Line Health Insurance  Registration Form will be available by late Spring.
