1. Why do I have to complete the "Intent to Seek External Funding" form?

  • When the CFGR office receives this form, we call you:
  • to help identify any past interaction of the funding institution with Colby,
  • to determine if there are any special institutional requirements or forms that we can provide,
  • to ascertain if there are any potential conflicts with other proposals being prepared for the same funding institution,
  • to ensure that the budget is complete relative to the funding institution's requirements,
  • to help identify any matching requirements,
  • to anticipate the due date and ensure that the final signature process goes smoothly - especially when the proposal needs to be mailed on deadline, and
  • to answer any questions you may have.

2. Why are signatures necessary on the "Review of Proposal" form?

  • When Colby and its faculty enters into a contract with an organization, Colby assumes some fiscal responsibility. For this reason, it is important that persons who have responsibility for administation of budgets sign off on the proposals as they are mailed. In addition, other signatures are needed as a mechanism of transferring information and alerting record keepers that a new submission has occurred. Colby is frequently asked how many and what type of proposals are submitted as an indicator of the research activity on campus. The completed sign-off sheets help us keep track of that activity.

3. Will the CFGR office write my proposal for me?

  • The CFGR Office's primary responsibilities include planning, preparing, and submitting institutional grants. However, the Office does keep records of individual faculty proposals and helps to identify due dates for reporting. Individuals write their own grant proposals.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to mail Bets Brown at the CFGR office.
