Internships
What is an Internship? An internship is a monitored work experience in which a student has intentional learning goals and reflects on what she or he is gaining throughout the experience. An internship most frequently takes place at an off-campus job site and is monitored by an on-site work supervisor. It is designed to broaden a student’s awareness of a career field and specific jobs within that field. Why do an Internship? Often students struggle to decide what career path they want to pursue after graduation. While this is a normal part of career development, students who report conducting internships tend to have an easier time deciding because they can gain a first-hand look into a career field of interest. Internships allow students the opportunity to practice networking skills and build confidence in the job hunting process. In addition, students who do internships find it easier to gain employment after graduation or entry into graduate school.
