Each year, the Colby College Museum of Art offers an array of public programs including lectures, performances, classes, and workshops. All of these events are free and open to the public. The Museum's regular public programs include:

Hands-on Workshops for Children and Families

In conjunction with Freshwater Arts in Waterville and Waterville Main Street, the museum offers four workshops each year—in the spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each workshop begins with a focused tour of works in the museum collection and concludes with a hands-on art activity at Freshwater Arts.

Noontime Art Talks

Noontime Art Talks

On most Thursdays, museum staff members, Colby faculty members, and guest speakers will discuss current exhibitions or works in the museum collection in Noontime Art Talks. Complimentary lunch for the first 40 visitors begins at noon; talks begin at 12:30 p.m.

Story Time in the Museum

Volunteer Docent Jane Giglio talks about the book she's just read, Linnea in Monet's Garden by Christina Bjork, with eager young listeners.

Story Time in the Museum

On Saturdays, student volunteers and museum docents read art-related stories, play games, and lead discussions in the museum’s galleries.

Story Time in the Museum, every Saturday morning at 10 am, is designed for young children, and no registration is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Student Docent Lectures

The Colby College Museum of Art sponsors a series of lectures by Colby students who are part of the museum’s docent program. The Student Docent Gallery Lecture Series provides an opportunity for students to present findings of their scholarly research and for patrons to learn more about works in the museum’s collection. The series is open to the public and free of charge, and all talks begin in the Museum lobby.
