Senior Scholars Papers are deposited and maintained in the in the Colby College Special Collections, Miller Library. The Library encourages departments to also deposit Honors Theses with Special Collections. A second circulating copy of these materials will be made available upon recommendation, and provided by, the sponsoring academic department.
Preparation of Materials: - Use standard thesis paper of at least 25% rag content, available from local stationers.
- No requirement is made for font size or style.
- A margin of either 1" or 1-1/2" is required for binding purposes.
- There should be a distinct title page identifying the author(s), type of project (Senior Scholars, Honors), college department/program, and date.

Delivery of Materials: - Departments will deliver Papers and Theses to Special Collections in Miller Library, or to the Science Library or Bixler (art/music) Library, for processing.
- Copies of each Paper and Thesis received for Library use will be bound in black buckram binding.
- The Library will send materials to the bindery and charge departments a standard binding fee of $20 per volume. Materials warranting special handling such as multi-media presentations or oversize volumes may require additional fees. In such cases, the library will consult with the department.
- Authors of Papers and Theses who wish bound copies of their work for their personal use may contact Patricia Burdick, Special Collections Librarian (ext. 5151 or paburdic@colby.edu), for a list of regional binding suervices. Authors will make all arrangements and pay all costs for binding personal copies.
Access and Use: - Papers and theses are cataloged and listed in the Colby Library Catalog. Special Collections copies do not circulate outside of Special Collections.
- Patrons may gain access to these materials via Special Collections staff and use the materials within Special Collections, following the stated policies.
- In some cases, patrons may be permitted to use Senior Scholars Papers and Honors Theses in Miller Library outside of Special Collections hours. This option is explained in the In-house Hold policy posted on the Special Collections web site.
- Master copies of multi-media papers and theses are preserved and consulting copies made by Special Collections for in-house use.
- Circulating second copies will be housed in the general stacks of Miller, Bixler, or the Science Library depending on the subject matter. Papers and theses circulate only to Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin faculty, staff and students.
Photocopy: - Special Collections acknowledges that the intellectual rights for each Senior Scholars Paper and Honors Thesis remain with the author. However, the act of depositing these materials with Special Collections indicates a willingness by the author to share her/his work with the Colby community and with the general public.
- Requests for duplication of Senior Scholars Papers and Honors Theses are filled in compliance with the Copyright Law of the United States (17 U.S.C. 101). Photocopy requests are accommodated in a timely manner. Photocopy fees are charged per the fee structure posted on the Special Collections web site.
