| Most library materials are protected by copyright. Borrowers are responsible for any violation which occurs while materials are in their possession. The Copyright Law (Title 17 US Code) limits the reproduction and distribution of copyrighted works. In general, the law allows a single copy of a chapter, article, essay or poem for use in scholarly research, class work, or teaching. Unauthorized duplication or showing for profit of video recordings is a violation of the copyright act. Unauthorized copying of images or text into web pages by scanning paper or copying electronic files infringes on copywrite. The text of the law, and books about copyright are available in the Reference Collection. Ask a reference librarian for help or take a Crash Course in Copyright from the Univerity of Texas. |
