Left to Right: Laura Webb, ‘08, Tutor; Tracy Hamler Carrick, Current Director; Emily Judem, ‘06, Tutor; and Jean Donovan Sanborn, Farnham Writers’ Center Founder and Director, 1984-2003. What We Do Since 1984, the Farnham Writers' Center has been working with Colby students, faculty, and staff on their writing. We are a free resource available to all writers on campus. No matter how far along your paper is, no matter the subject, we are qualified and ready to work with you! We'll ask and answer questions about your writing, discuss your style and technique, and encourage you to take a pro-active role in your own writing. The Farnham Writers' Center Library also has a full selection of reference materials on various types of writing, writing across the curriculum, writing theory and pedagogy, and different styles of citation. Who We Are Thirty-Six trained Colby students staff the FWC. We range from sophomores to seniors, and represent twenty different academic disciplines. If you'd like, you can request to work with a tutor who is majoring in a particular subject. ALL the tutors, however, are trained in tutoring ALL the disciplines, so you're guaranteed to work with someone who is familiar with the expectations for writing in your particular discipline. To learn more about each of us, check out our profiles. All of the tutors who work in the FWC undergo rigorous training in our EN214 class, Tutoring Writing, in which students combine tutoring theory with practice in preparation for becoming tutors.
