American Studies/WGSS Colloquium Series This year, American Studies and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies will co-host a colloquium series -- three events each semester -- highlighting the scholarship of our own Colby faculty. Citizen Bravery: Hubert Howe Bancroft, Jodie Foster, and the Vigilante Ideal Lisa Arellano will be the featured speaker for the second in the colloquium series co-hosted by American Studies and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The talk will take place on Thursday, October 18, from 4 -- 6 p.m. in the Whitney Room, in Roberts Union. All are invited. Light refreshments will be served before the talk. L is for Looking: Feminism and Representation on the L Word The third event in the joint American Studies and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies colloquium series. Margaret McFadden will speak on Thursday, November 15, from 4 -- 6 p.m. in the Whitney Room in Roberts Union. This talk is open to everyone. Light refreshments will be served before the presentation. Cheryl Townsend Gilkes to Kick Off Joint Colloquium Series The opening event of the colloquium series co-hosted by American Studies and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, presented in collaboration with African American Studies, will be held on Thursday, September 27, at 4:30 p.m. Professor Cheryl Townsend Gilkes will speak on "Actualizing an Imagined Community: Black Women as Agents of a Trans-denominational Black Church." The event will take place in the Parker Reed Room in the Schair-Swenson-Watson Alumni Center. Light refreshments will be served before the talk, beginning at 4:15. |
